Aims & Objectives

So not long ago I was helping teach people how to shoot long bow and late in the day just before the close a lady comes to me with her three year old boy.

I was the only one left available to teach so I took him on for his 6 arrows and we eventually got one up the track near the boss. We had small poundage bows so that wasn’t the issue. I’m not sure he had a big vocabulary so he may not have understood every word I said but I helped him physically hold the arrow on the string and resting over his left index finger. He didn’t really get the idea of pulling the string right back to create a potential force to then loose the arrow with force.

Later that night it occurred to me that a) he knew what archery was because his mum must have said something to him and B) that he knew what the aim of the game was. In fact he probably knew neither of these and I failed to mention them because I’d been teaching people all day who had at least seen Robin Hood.

So, never forget to let people know the name of the game, the aim and if they are first timers the objectives that will help them achieve the aim.
